Harry Potter and Marketing II

LunaAll right - I'm back, but I haven't finished reading the last Harry Potter book yet, so please don't spoil the ending for me.  I promised that we would talk more about the Harry Potter mega marketing machine that seems to have taken over the imagination of the world.  So let's start that process today.

I'm going to take the ideas that I presented to you in the last blog and go through them each in a single post.  Today we'll start with:

  • It's fantastic - things that could never happen in real life magically happen - it's every kid's fantasy to have special magical powers

Now you may be wondering how in the world I could apply this to marketing real estate.  Well, I can, and here's how.  (Before you read the ideas below, please realize that I am brainstorming here.  Not every idea will be good for you, some may even be a little out there; but for each idea, there is an agent that could work with it effectively, so don't laugh too quickly.)

  1. Everyone wants a magic bullet answer to their problems.  This is the basis of all of today's media messages.  Have wrinkles?  Use this cream!  Fat?  Try this diet!  Not enough dates?  Get this sexy new car!  And don't even get me started on the ads that show up in my spam mailbox on a regular basis.  Can you offer a magic bullet solution to a buyer or seller's problem?  Sure!  Here's an example:  "It's almost August and I want the kids to start school in their new school district.  Is it even possible to make that happen at this late date?"  Absolutely!  With our latest fast-target home selection tool and quick-approval financing, you can be in your new home before the school year begins.  But only if you get started today.  Call now!
  2. The agent themselves could be The Real Estate Wizard.  With a wave of his magic wand he turns tired houses into showplaces (again with the magic bullet), makes buyers appear on the front lawn, turns dead deals into done deals, and conjures up the perfect house for the next move.
  3. Wish fulfillment for First Time Buyers (we're dealing with fantasies remember?) - Wouldn't it be nice to tell your landlord good-bye forever?  What color would you like to paint YOUR walls?  Finally a place to call your OWN.  Do you have a house or a home?  (The home is the one you own.)

Those are just three ideas.  Now it's up to you guys.  What other ideas can you come up with that can reflect the magical fantasy fulfillment theme that has made Harry Potter so popular?  Share some below!
