How big of market area do you typically need to have a trainer?  Our town is about 65,000 with approx. 350 real estate agents so not sure if we have a big enough area for this.  Let me know!

Thanks,

Susan

Trainers.  Here's the thing (I've been involved with trainers for 23 years, through good and bad)- if you can't achieve correct pricing, which can be established by having a backbone more than training, what can you possibly offer (not YOU, a trainer in general)??

Sounds interesting. Medford is pretty close as well. I'll go check out your website.

This sounds very interesting -- you will have to tell us a bit more -- I am not sure I understand exactly how this works.  I will check into this further.

Dear Susan,

It sounds like your marketplace is a bit too small.  The real question is whether you would be willing to commute to a larger town nearby for your training.  You don't have to live/work in the market you're training in.

Dear Laurie,

I'm not really sure what you're saying in your comment.  If your point is that backbone is more important than training, I would have to say that they are both equally important.  You can have all the backbone in the world and if you don't know how to present it properly to the sellers, you'll just come off as stubborn and arrogant.  Tact, skill, understanding, good boundaries (or backbone as you call it), knowledge of the market, good self esteem, and more are required to be a great agent - and those are the skills you need AFTER you have the lead.  There's a whole host of other skills required to get the leads and then to nurture the past client list.  Most people don't have these skills naturally.  That's why they need training.

I wouldn't mind checking this out a little more but I need to check and make sure it wouldn't be a violation of my franchise agreement.

Thank you for your comment to my comment, Kelle.  It seems that trainers come out of the woodwork in a poor market, and with some exceptional and some exceptionally horrible, care needs to be taken by all of us to establish exactly what is offered.  The best trainer in the world is not going to "fix" the current woes; on the other hand, for people that want to hone specific skills, the offerings are appreciated.

I truly want to check it out Kelle, I'm going to have to wait for a small break to update my resume.  I love public speaking, real estate and your book...

Kelle - Training is something I enjoyed; I had the opportunity to train many end-users as well as system administrators on the use of their telecommunication systems.  Those were the days of long commutes, I could find my self in CT, MA, NJ and of course NY.  I really connected with my classes and training is something I would truly enjoy again in the future.
